Staff and trustees of Helmdon Acorns Pre-school are celebrating after achieving the top grade of ‘Outstanding’ in all areas in its latest Ofsted inspection last month.
“We have a very strong staffing team and dedicated voluntary Committee of trustees, all of whom work extremely hard to make Helmdon Acorns a positive, enriching setting for the children attending our setting.” commented Liz Hart, Setting Manager.
“ We’re delighted that all this effort and dedication has paid off!”.
In particular, the report highlighted the following areas as exceptional:
- “All children, including those with additional needs, make rapid progress in their learning. The staff are highly skilled in their teaching and engage the children in exciting activities that follow their interests and take full account of their next steps in learning.”
- “Partnership working is exceptionally effective. Parents are happy with the care their children receive and they comment on how well the staff support their children. Staff have developed strong partnerships with local schools and this results in children having a very positive transition to them.”
The setting, which is situated in a rural position four miles from Brackley, recently benefitted from the addition of new outdoor equipment and storage facilities to support its popular Forest School activities. In addition, Helmdon Acorns was amongst the first organisations in the country to receive charitable funding from the HS2 train line development scheme; to provide an enlarged play surface outside to give the children lots of opportunities to develop their physical and turn taking skills.

The committee have been hard at work making a great job of painting both the main room and the kitchen this summer. It looks fantastic.
We have also had new flooring put down in the kitchen, children’s toilets and the main room. None of this would have been possible without the fundraising efforts of the staff and committee.
Thanks to generous donations and match funding we now have solar panels installed at Acorns. Complete with an on screen display in the cloakroom, showing us how much we have saved.
